Many search engines give importance to keywords and text found in the body of the text in the beginning of the page. The assumption being the text in the beginning of the webpage is more significant/relevant than the text at the end of the webpage. Some search engines also use it as part of the description about the website.

Body text design tips:
Include in the beginning of the body text of your website, words or phrases that are associated with identifying a website like yours. As the beginning of the first sentence may also appear as description for your website in search engine results, it makes sense to write it to paraphrase about the website.

What if there is no text in the beginning of the website?
If the website page has no text in the beginning of the document, but has an image or a shock wave file, etc., then try to use text next to it or just after the image and hope the search engine would still index it.
